225 Group launches unique archive

The 225 Group has launched a unique interactive archive detailing the modern history of the InterCity 225 fleet on the East Coast Mainline (ECML).

Access to the online tool is available exclusively to members of the 225 Group. It offers granular detail of every single passenger service operated by an LNER InterCity 225 from 2021 and 2022 – nearly 10 000 services in all.

This information has been compiled by the group’s team of volunteers and verified by industry partners.

The archive is optimised for all sizes of device, allowing it to be used anywhere with an internet connection. The powerful search facility allows members to filter (among other things) by date, locomotive, rake of carriages, or specific service.

The launch is just the first phase of this project – the digital platform is designed to allow additional workings as well as new features to be added over time.

Jacob Baldwin, 225 Group Marketing & Communications Manager said: “Our archive gives us the opportunity to showcase the everyday life of the InterCity 225 and record it for posterity. We realised that the internet has further popularised sharing ‘gen’ on the train operating each service, and we wanted to extend that information back in time.

“This is our first release, but we’re very pleased with how it’s turned out! There’s something really satisfying about scrolling through the calendar to see what the trains were doing on a particular day.”
