Local volunteer will brighten up Sheringham station’s new platform

A volunteer who has ‘adopted’ Sheringham rail station, Norfolk, plans to brighten up the town’s new train platform with flowers.

Sheila McGinley has worked with train operator, Greater Anglia, to install three wooden planters which she will fill with attractive plants.

The planters replace the old station garden, which was unfortunately lost when the platform needed to be extended to accommodate Greater Anglia’s new fleet of trains.

More than £1 million was invested in the project, which has seen improved LED lighting and a new, bigger and better customer shelter installed.

Passengers with luggage, buggies and those using wheelchairs all benefit from the improved facilities – both at the station and on the new trains, which have lower floors and a sliding step at every door which bridges the gap between the train and platform, making it easier to get on and off with wheelchairs, buggies or heavy luggage.

The new trains are also longer, with more seats, plug and USB sockets, better passenger information screens, separate wheelchair and cycle areas, air conditioning and fast free wifi.,

Greater Anglia’s Customer and Community Engagement Manager, Alan Neville, said: “I’m pleased that we have been able to work with Sheila to bring some attractive floral displays back to Sheringham station, to help provide a more welcoming environment to everyone who uses the station.”
