TfN board to make major appointment next week

Transport for the North (TfN) board will meet to appoint its new chair next week.

The business leaders and politicians will also discuss the latest on business planning and rail investment, including the Integrated Rail Plan (IRP). It will also look at the TfN budget.

Lord Patrick McLoughlin has been put forward as the new TfN partnership board and board chair. He has been chosen by the appointment panel as the preferred candidate and, if approved, would start in post on 26 January 2022.

Other business includes looking at an initial report from TfN on the IRP, the implications on the transition and co-sponsor arrangements for Northern Powerhouse Rail; and the approach to the Transport Select Committee inquiry next month.

Also to be discussed is TfN’s budget and business planning for FY 2022/23, as well as:

  • Rail investment and business planning
  • Union Connectivity Review
  • Strategic Transport Plan policy development

The meeting is open to the public and the media (exceptions for private items) and will be streamed live online.

The Transport for the North board meeting is on Tuesday 25 January 2022 at 2pm.
