GBRTT advisory panel meets for the first time to discuss the future of the UK railway

The advisory panel for the Great British Railways Transition Team (GBRTT), chaired by Keith Williams, met for the first time in January.

The panel has been appointed to oversee, steer and advise the transition team responsible for creating Great British Railways, the new public body that aims to bring the railways back together and end a quarter century of fragmentation. 

The panel will support the team at GBRTT as they work to deliver the commitments made in the Williams-Shapps Plan for Rail, and to create the foundations for a simpler, better railway for everyone in Britain.

Its members will work collaboratively with the GBRTT leadership team to help them deliver a more sustainable railway that better serves the needs of passenger and freight customers.

Leader of the Great British Railways Transition Team, Andrew Haines, said: “Our mission is to create a simpler, better railway for everyone in Britain.  A critical component of this will be a cultural shift to a much more customer-centric, flexible and responsive railway.

“A dynamic mix of skills, know-how and experience from across rail, transport and other industries will make up this new Advisory Panel. Our collective job is to help passenger and freight services thrive in a post pandemic era and we are excited to be able to reach this milestone.”
