Rail supports Pride in London

Staff from across the rail industry took part in the 50th anniversary of the UK’s first pride event.

It is thought that more than one million attended this year’s Pride in London, which saw a triumphant return following the COVID-19 pandemic. The march took the colourful parade of revellers from Hyde Park Corner to Whitehall, where there were performances from Ava Max and Emili Sande.

Among those taking part was Women in Rail, which joined up with Network Rail’s LGBT+ network, Archway. Archway exists to promote LGBT+ inclusion at Network Rail, as part of the infrastructure owner’s wider diversity and inclusion programme.

Women in Rail launched their Pride logo last year, and to mark its 10-year anniversary, attended the parade for the first time.

Rajinder Pryor MBE, Trustee at Women in Rail, said: “We wanted to show our support as active allies to the LGBT+ community. Having a presence here also reinforces  our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion through the joint WR/RIA EDI Charter for Rail, which many organisations across the rail industry have already signed up to.”

LNER also shared some fantastic pictures from the day. They provided a stunning welcome to visitors arriving at King’s Cross station, hosting a photo area complete with glitter artists. Drag artist Miss Ellie Ganza joined the LNER team for the celebrations.

Transport for London, which has put on its biggest-ever display of posters highlighting Pride around London in the run up to the event also shared pictures from the day on Twitter.

OUTbound, featured in this photo, is TfL’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT+) Staff Network Group. The group was created to champion a safe and inclusive work environment so LGBT+ colleagues can be authentic, celebrate who they are and have equality of opportunity.
