Pilot project to move grain from Ukraine to Spain gets underway

A specially-adapted train comprising 25 40-foot containers filled with bags has got underway as part of a new pilot project to help Ukraine export its grain.

The effort, launched by Spain’s Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma), aims to mitigate problems suffered by sea transportation because of incidents at Ukraine’s sea ports in the Black Sea.

Spanish state-owned Renfe Mercancias sent the containers to the border between Poland and Ukraine to transport 600 tons of Ukrainian corn to Spain.

The logistics of the transport is planned to be carried out between Ukraine and Spain, transferring the merchandise in Chelm (Poland), 25 kilometres from the border with Ukraine. The specially adapted train will reach Chelm by the end of August
