All aboard the ScotRail Santa Express!

This weekend saw the departure of the first ScotRail Santa Express! Earlier in the year, ScotRail answered the call to support Rail Aid in style by running their very own festive trains. The Santa Express has raised an amazing £37,000, all of which will be donated to Railway Children, supporting street children across the UK, India, and East Africa.

The train travelled from Edinburgh Waverly station to Aviemore and then continued along the Strathspey Railway – a restored section of the original Highland Railway through the stunning Cairngorms scenery to Boat of Garten. Passengers then disembarked and were entertained by a piper playing Christmas music and served festive food and drink, before they headed back to Edinburgh.

On 11 and 18 December, the Santa Express will travel from Edinburgh and take in the Fife Circle and cross the famous Forth Bridge. The journey will be perfect for families with Father Christmas handing out presents and there will be trains departing in the morning and the afternoon.

Rob Capener, Director of Marketing and Fundraising at Railway Children said: “Thank you to the incredible staff at ScotRail who worked tirelessly to ensure all the families on the train had a wonderful festive day. The money they have raised will change children’s lives around the world.”

The Rail Aid team are so grateful to the ScotRail for their support. Tickets for the Santa Express sold out almost instantly but keep an eye out for ways to support Railway Children next year!
