AmcoGiffen hosts ‘Working Better, Together’ Engagement Event for Scotland Supply Chain

Around 70 supply chain partners came together with contractor AmcoGiffen in February to build a sustainable, collaborative supply chain future for the region. 

The event at Hampden Park on Thursday 9 February was fully booked and comprised a busy agenda to work through as well as opportunities to network and build relationships.

AmcoGiffen’s Regional Managing Director for Scotland, Jim Double opened the day and provided a business overview talking through the company history and how it’s grown in the last 50 years, from a small mining contractor to a subsidiary of Renew Holding, employing around 1,500 people throughout the UK.

Jim also talked about future growth and pipeline opportunities. This was followed by Regional Head of Health and Safety, Andrew Wilson talking through plans for Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ), their SHEQ vision and how supply partners play their role providing performance and cultural improvements sustainability solutions and looking ahead together.  

Procurement and Supply Chain Director for AmcoGiffen, Ben McCluskey introduced the long-term procurement strategy and the AmcoGiffen procurement team. He explained plans for ‘Working Better, Together’ through; forward planning, combining knowledge and resources, fixing broken links and true collaboration to achieve value-based supply chain management. The aim is to build deeper rooted, meaningful relationships, explore shared objectives, and deliver greater innovation and ESG outputs collectively.

Acknowledging the challenges faced within the supply chain, Ben commented: “The sharing of pipeline information is not unique to AmcoGiffen and in my experience, fairly common across the tier 1 community, mastering this can be tough but we believe it can be achieved.”

Ben went on to discuss the various ways that AmcoGiffen is committed to working better. together with membership of the Supply Chain Sustainability School to build its supply chain skills, Science Based Target Initiatives to drive sustainable growth and working with SME’s and building strategic partnerships to strengthen capabilities.

The engineering and construction contractor is determined to boost engagement and enhance culture and aside from the event in Scotland has organised a Supply Chain Santa Social, visited suppliers on site for team building, completed social value volunteering and attends several industry supply chain networking events. 

The afternoon was dedicated to hearing from the audience and started with an open question and answer session, swiftly following with a workshop based around feedback from a survey carried out prior to the event. Facilitated by AmcoGiffen, Framework Manager, Bev Varley the session aimed to take stock and establish foundations and actions for improvement. The workshop themes included:

  • Early engagement
  • Pipeline visibility
  • Collaboration and communication
  • Performance reviewing
  • Additional support and training
  • Alignment to AmcoGiffen future strategy

The insights and feedback from the day are now being reviewed for the company to develop future innovation and collaboration plans to benefit its clients in Scotland and the wider rail industry.
