ASLEF: tram strikes going ahead this week

ASLEF has said its members are to strike on London Trams because of a pay dispute.

The union, which represents many of the industry’s train drivers, said that it turned down an offer from FirstGroup for 3%, arguing that the RPI rate of inflation has reached 11%.

The ASLEF members who took part in the ballot voted by 99.2% in favour of strike action.

Strike action will take place from 00:01 on Tuesday 28 until 23.59 on Wednesday 29 June.

Transport for London warned Buses in Croydon, Wimbledon, Beckenham and Addington will be busier than normal as customers seek alternative routes – including local bus services, which will be enhanced.

Trish Ashton, TfL director of rail and sponsored services, said: “We are disappointed that ASLEF have decided to take industrial action on the tram network and urge them to meet with Tram Operations Ltd, the operator, to try and resolve this matter and avoid disruption to our customers. All customers travelling on the days set to be impacted by strikes are advised to check before they make their journeys.”
