AssessTech opens a new Australian office

AssessTech, the UK’s leading provider of electronic competence management technology and training has, this month, opened an office in Brisbane, Australia. The office will service the APAC region, initially focussing on freight, passenger and light rail companies in Australia and New Zealand.

The decision to open this office is an example of AssessTech’s commitment to further enhance the safety of the global rail industry by introducing the benefit of electronic developmental competence management to the APAC region.

Graham Force has been appointed as Business Development Manager looking after the APAC region. Graham is well respected in the railway industry and has over 40 years’ experience working in a variety of roles from entry-level train crew through to managerial operating training and developmental positions in the UK, New Zealand and Australia.

Developmental Competence Management is all about putting the candidate front and centre of the process, focussing on their needs and encouraging them to own their own competence. Competence across the rail industry in APAC is currently being managed using mainly paper-based systems and processes which leads to inconsistencies, errors and inefficiencies. There is no standardisation in collecting data and assessing staff, which unfortunately can result in costly safety breaches and incidents.

The Australian Government has introduced the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) which is the national set of compliance standards and essential conditions that the VET training provider must meet to become a registered training provider (RTO). This is the first step on the ladder in trying to standardise competence across the individual states of Australia.

Sally Brinkley, Operations Director at AssessTech said: “We see huge potential for us to help improve competence management across the rail industry in Australia and New Zealand and we’re looking forward to working closely with the rail operators across freight, passenger and light rail. Our aim is to bring the learning from our existing customers, including in the UK, Great Western Railway, Northern, Southeastern, Greater Anglia and Heathrow Rail and international customers including Saudi Arabia Rail and Eurostar.”

Boilerplate AssessTech are the UK’s leading provider of electronic competence management software and training consultancy, all focused on delivering a safer railway for the UK. They work with 85% of the UK’s rail network providing services to customers such as Great Western Railway, Northern, Southeastern, Greater Anglia, Heathrow Rail and Eurostar.
