AssessTech’s User Forum – Shaping the future of Competence Management

Now in its 8th year the AssessTech User Forum has become a crucial date in the diary for operations teams across the UK to meet, share ideas and best practice.

AssessTech’s user forum started out in the basement of their old Guildford offices in 2014 where six customers joined the AssessTech team to provide feedback and help shape the roadmap for electronic competence management.

Today, the User Forum has moved to a conference venue in central London and attracts over 150 people from across operations, engineering, and IT as well as customers joining online from Saudi Arabia, Germany and Australia.  The event previously focused on train operating companies, but over the last few years it has evolved to include freight operators and key partners. It remains a User Forum as the purpose of this meeting of minds is to provide an open forum for individuals working across the industry to talk about their challenges around assessment and competence management, to learn from each other, suggest ideas and enhancements for AssessTech’s technology solutions and share best practice.

Sally Brinkley COO of AssessTech said, “As the UK’s leading provider of electronic competence management solutions, having direct feedback from our customers and industry partners is crucial to delivering a solution that really works for the railway industry.

“We want customers to openly talk about their challenges, their plans and aspirations, so we can ensure we deliver solutions to help them achieve their goals.  We believe our User Forum (and our approach) is unique as the customer has a strong influence over our technology roadmap, creating solutions to challenges and problems they are facing and developing new solutions to help them manage the competence management process within their organisations, better.”

This year’s User Forum will take place on Thursday 17th November in Woburn House, near Euston Station, London.  The theme of this year’s conference is Connecting and Collaborating across the Railway Community and boasts a great line up of speakers including individuals from SWR, GWR, Totara and Arriva Rail.

Head of operational standards at South Western Railway (SWR) Stewart Player commented, “The User Forum is the one event I really look forward to in the railway calendar.  It has evolved significantly from the early days when it was an informal get together in AssessTech’s offices where a few of the early adopter TOCs met to talk about their experiences and the challenges they were facing.

“Now the User Forum has become a key date in the diary for most railway operations teams. It is a much bigger, more formal event attracting representation from most of the organisations across the railway and it provides an excellent opportunity for myself and colleagues across the industry to meet, share ideas and best practice and influence the development roadmap of ACMS to ensure it meets all our requirements.”
