Avanti introduces additional trains on Manchester route

Avanti West Coast (AWC) is introducing additional services on its busiest route, from Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston, to help take people to London who wish to pay their respects to HM Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away on 8 September.

There will be 26 trains between Manchester and London each day, with the first departing at 0555, and the last southbound leaving at 2115.

An Avanti West Coast spokesperson said: “With the sad news of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, we are expecting a great many mourners to visit London on our services.

“We want to ensure that everyone who wants to travel on our trains to pay their respects can do so, and have been working hard to see where we can put on additional services for the period of mourning.  With that in mind, we have been able to put in place up to eight additional services a day on our busiest route between London and Manchester. This will add a total of around 16,000 extra seats.

“We expect services to be very busy so ask people to check before they travel and allow plenty of time for their journey.”

The full range of fares, including AWC’s cheapest, will be available but are likely to sell out quickly due to the high demand. The latest timetable, ticket information and travel advice are also on our website, social media, and app.

Additional trains depart Manchester Piccadilly at 0935, 1155, 1355 and 1755 on 14/15 September, with extra northbound departures at 1240, 1440, 1640 and 2040.

On 16 September, there are additional departures from Manchester Piccadilly at 0935, 1355 and 1755, with northbound departures at 1240, 1640 and 2040.

AWC has confirmed it is examining options for additional trains on other routes.
