Bombardier Transportation UK: Future train interior concepts more compatible with social distancing

Design engineers from Bombardier Transportation UK are looking at new train interior concepts more compatible with social distancing.

Currently train operating companies are looking at ways to keep both staff and passengers safe, with one-way systems and seats taped off among the measures.

Meanwhile some operators are only allowing tickets bought in advance to ensure trains aren’t too busy.

The current Government advice is for people to only travel if necessary, but with more people going back to work, changes are being made to stop passengers getting too close, minimising the risk of the spread of coronavirus.

Leading train manufacturer Bombardier Transportation UK says work is underway on the possible interior designs of trains and has released some initial ideas to railbusinessdaily.com

Bombardier Transportation UK’s Commercial Director Des McKeon said: “Government advice is to avoid using public transport where possible, but in the longer term rail is fundamental to the country’s sustainable prosperity.

“Our Derby design engineers are already thinking about how future train interior concepts for our customers might be made more compatible with social distancing to keep people safe and confident when using public transport.”
