c2c offers 1,000 half-price leisure tickets to promote green travel during COP26 conference

Local train operator c2c is offering 1,000 half-price weekday Off-Peak tickets on its trains during the COP26 environmental conference, to promote the railways as an environmentally friendly way to travel.

To access the discounted tickets, passengers can simply visit www.c2c-online.co.uk/media-centre/latest-news/green-travel-campaign/ and enter their email address. c2c will then send the customer their bespoke discount code, which they can use for a half-price off-peak c2c trip taken any weekday between 1 – 12 November.

Taking the train is one of the most environmentally friendly ways to travel long distances. c2c passengers can calculate just how much greener their choice to take the train is, by using the carbon calculator developed by EcoPassenger on behalf of the International Railways Union. For example, one person travelling from Southend to Fenchurch Street reduces their carbon dioxide emissions by up to 74% if they take the train rather than driving a diesel car.

c2c Commercial Director Clare McCaffrey said: “The eyes of the world are on the COP26 conference in Glasgow over the next two weeks, but we all know that being green starts a lot closer to home. This is why we’re offering 1,000 half-price weekday leisure tickets, to encourage more people to take the train and leave the car behind.

“c2c has great environmental credentials, having exceeded our own targets on carbon emissions and water consumption in the past year. We also run an entirely electric fleet, with no diesel trains. Over the next two weeks we will be running a campaign highlighting what we have been doing to improve our own environmental performance, and promoting greener travel.”
