Celebrating excellence and innovation at the 2021 Global Light Rail Awards

Guests from around the world gathered in person to celebrate another year of outstanding achievement at the 2021 Global Light Rail Awards–held at London’s Honourable Artillery Company on Wednesday 6th October.

Now in its 15th year, the sector’s ‘Oscars’, the judging panel deliberated over almost 100 entries across 17 categories for this year’s event, noting that “this is yet another tough year to select the winners from so many excellent entries.

There is so much sparkle between them and so many interesting and innovative things here for us all to take away; it really is inspiring.”

The event, organised by Mainspring and supported by industry publication Tramways & Urban Transit, was hosted once again by respected broadcaster and journalist Nicholas Owen.

The headline supporter for 2021 was London Trams operator Tram Operations Limited, with category sponsors from many disciplines across the sector.

Global Light Rail Awards Director Matt Johnston added: “In what has been an enormously challenging year for everyone, it was amazing to see the leading figures of the industry in person.

“Despite the challenges of the past 18 months, the innovation, hard work and ingenuity within the sector has continued at a pace which all the judges agreed was staggering. All this year’s entrants have proven that our colleagues across the world have the ability to be at the forefront of mobility in the years to come.”
