Changing the lives of children living on the street the pay day way

The railway family has been challenged to play a vital role in helping vulnerable children and families.

It’s Payroll Giving Week from February 7th and Railway Children wants to highlight the huge impact the charity’s supporters have on the lives on vulnerable children by donating this way.

Dave Ellis, corporate partnership’s manager at the Railway Children, said: “Last year alone Railway Children’s incredible army of payroll contributors raised an amazing £34,500.

“We can’t thank them enough for this generosity – that amount of money is genuinely life-changing and will make such a huge difference to vulnerable children and families around the world.

“It will help us keep working with the thousands of children across the UK, India and East Africa who run away or are forced to leave homes that have become unbearable through poverty, abuse, violence and neglect.”

The amazing £34,500 raised by employees in 2021 is enough to fund two part-time project workers reaching out to children at risk in the UK for a whole year.

Network Rail is one of the companies helping its staff to donate to Railway Children through Payroll Giving.

Yvonne Owuor, from the company, said: “We are delighted that Network Rail is committed to encouraging our employees to take part in donating to charities of their own choice through our payroll giving scheme.

“This scheme was first launched at Network Rail in 1997 and with almost 4,000 donors currently, it allows our staff to donate money directly from their salary in a tax efficient way.”

Payroll Giving is a donation that comes direct from your salary, before tax, meaning you can give more at no extra cost – for example, every £5 donation would only cost you £4.
