The level crossing on the Flosh footpath near Cononley has reopened after work to improve sighting for pedestrians who cross the railway.
The crossing was temporarily closed in December due to concerns that pedestrians didn’t have adequate warning of oncoming trains to allow them to safely cross the line.
Network Rail worked between 9 and 13 August to improve the safety of the level crossing by removing trees, which were affected by ash dieback, from land adjacent to the railway.
These trees were blocking sightlines for pedestrians, which meant they didn’t have as much warning of trains running on the Airedale Line between Keighley and Skipton as they needed. Now that they have been removed, the crossing has been reopened to the public on Friday 13 August.
Olly Glover, Head of Safety in the North & East for Network Rail said: “This work means that we can open up the crossing for public use straight away.
“The safety of the level crossing users must always be our main priority. I’d like to thank local people, along with the parish council, for there continued support and patience throughout this period.”
