Costain appointment of Chair Designate and Non-Executive Director

Costain has announced that Kate Rock will be appointed to the Board on 1 November 2022 as an independent Non-Executive Director and Chair Designate and will assume the role of Chair from 1 December 2022.

The Group announced on 9 March 2022 Paul Golby’s intention to step down from the Board as Chair and non-executive director once the search for a successor had been concluded. Paul will remain in his current position as Chair until 1 December 2022.

As well as her role as Chair Designate and Non-Executive Director, Kate will be appointed to the Nomination Committee of the Board on 1 November 2022 and will become Chair of that committee on 1 December 2022 when she assumes the role of Chair of the Board.

Since 2020, Kate has been senior independent director of Keller Group plc, having been appointed a non-executive director in 2018. Kate is a senior adviser at Instinctif Partners, an international business communications consultancy, and previously a managing partner of its predecessor College Hill Associates. She is also, until January 2023, a Member of the House of Lords Select Committee for Science and Technology. Kate is a non-executive director of Unbound Group plc, an AIM listed company and was previously a non-executive director of Imagination Technologies plc.

Tony Quinlan, Senior Independent Director, said: “Having conducted an extensive search process, we are delighted to welcome Kate to the Board of Costain where she will support the Group in the next stage of its transformation. She brings a strong understanding of the construction contracting sector, the application of innovation and technology to drive productivity enhancements, and of government. Her background in corporate communications and strategy, as well as her natural energy and new ideas, will support the acceleration of our transformation.

“On behalf of the Board and Company, I would also like to thank Paul for his considerable contribution to Costain for over six years. He has led Costain through a period of significant change and leaves the Group in a strong position for the future. We wish Paul all the very best.”

Baroness Rock said: “I am delighted to be appointed to the role of Chair at Costain and to be joining a team with a clear strategy and history of delivery in the growing UK infrastructure market. I look forward to contributing to the next stage of the Group’s development.”

Paul Golby commented: “I have been proud to serve as Chair of Costain for more than six years. I am confident that the strong progress made will ensure Costain continues to fulfil its purpose to improve people’s lives through connected, sustainable infrastructure. I wish Kate every success.”
