CrossCountry appoints John Robson as Regional Director

Great Britain’s largest long-distance rail operator, CrossCountry, has announced the appointment of John Robson as Regional Director.

Robson brings nearly 30 years’ rail experience, having held numerous operational roles for West Midlands Trains and Virgin Trains as well as delivering successful projects in rail consultancies.  His appointment marks the business’ move to strengthen its regional presence and is one of four regional director roles to be introduced in the coming months as CrossCountry bolsters its profile across the UK as long-distance operator of choice.

With full responsibility for the operational and financial performance of the West Midlands and North West region, John will be able to provide strategic direction to support the business’ growth.

On his appointment, he said: “I’m excited to join one of the UK’s largest long-distance operators, with services spanning the length and breadth of the country. I am looking forward to working closely with our front-line colleagues and customers to provide an excellent service.”

Tom Joyner, Managing Director at CrossCountry added: “John brings strong knowledge, passion and experience to CrossCountry which will be vital so that we are match-fit for the future. CrossCountry is changing and these regional directors will enable us to be more effective in the region.

“Their arrival also ties in with the political changes coming our way, namely greater local involvement in shaping services. By empowering regional directors with decision-making abilities, it enables us to operate more effectively which is a win-win for our people and importantly our customers.”

Robson will join the business in May 2020.
