DB Cargo launch new train service transporting steel from Wales to Belgium

DB Cargo UK says it’s launched a new train service from South Wales to Belgium for one its largest customers.

Steel from Tata Steel’s Port Talbot and Llanwern works is being transported through the Channel Tunnel for use in Belgium’s manufacturing sector.

It’s the second of two new services announced by DB Cargo UK in recent weeks.

A new express rail freight service between Spain and Britain was announced last month with its DB Cargo group partners at Transfesa Logistics.

The 72-hour rail service transports essential hygiene, medical and food products from the terminals in Valencia and Murcia to London.

Commenting following the service between Spain and Britain, Hans-Georg Werner, CEO of DB Cargo UK, said: “DB Cargo UK are delighted to be working with our DB Cargo group partners at Transfesa Logistics to deliver essential rail freight services across the continent in these challenging times.

“Rail freight has a vital role to play in the sustainable transportation of international goods and it’s more important than ever that we ensure these supplies reach the UK.”
