DCRail launches locomotive 60022

DCRail welcomed guests from across the rail freight industry to Derby railway station to celebrate the launch of locomotive 60022, which was unveiled as ‘Ingleborough’.

The launch forms part of DCRail’s multi million investment in modernised heavy freight capability, enabling the company to haul more aggregates to construction projects throughout the country.

The Mayor of Derby, Councillor Jonathan Smale, spoke at the ceremony of the city’s enduring links with rail before unveiling the nameplate.

The guest of honour was locomotive 60022 Ingleborough, a rebuilt and modernised Class 60 heavy freight loco. Its name honours the mountain overlooking the Settle-Carlisle line, linking the locomotive’s future role in construction supply chains with Britain’s proud rail freight heritage.

David Fletcher, Rail Director at Cappagh Group of Companies, said: “This was a proud day for DCRail and for rail freight. One hundred and fifty years ago, the Midland Railway completed Britain’s first national rail network with the opening of the iconic Settle-Carlisle Railway. It was therefore apt that loco 60022 is named after a mountain which stands proudly looking over the Settle-Carlisle line. We honour our railway heritage, and we are proud to carry it forward to future generations.

“This investment reflects our confidence in rail freight’s role in moving aggregates safely, sustainably and efficiently.Rail freight has always made a major contribution to building a better Britain, and this will continue.”

Locomotive 60022 Ingleborough will now go into service hauling aggregates for building projects across the country, helping Britain’s rail freight heritage continue to build the future.
