Deadline is Approaching to Register for New Certificate in Railway Control Engineering Fundamentals

Following the resounding success of the exam’s launch last year, the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (IRSE) is inviting candidates to book their place to sit its new, industry recognised Certificate in Railway Control Engineering Fundamentals online this October. Registration closes on 31 July and the examination is also open to non IRSE members.

The Certificate in Railway Control Engineering Fundamentals is designed to give candidates who may be new to the industry and those with transferrable skills from other railway disciplines and allied industries the opportunity to gain a recognised entry-level qualification.  It is also the first stage towards membership of the IRSE and the pre-qualifier for further modules of the IRSE professional examination which leads to attaining the Advanced Diploma in Railway Control Engineering.

Commenting on the new  Certificate in Railway Fundamentals, Judith Ward, director of operations  at the IRSE and a member of the Institution’s Education and Professional Development committee said: “This is an exciting development for us here at the IRSE and the feedback from last year’s candidates was very positive. For almost 100 years our professional examination has helped signal and communications engineers develop and progress in their careers. We hope the introduction of the new Certificate in Railway Control Engineering Fundamentals will enable a wide range of people from many different sectors to gain a recognised qualification which will demonstrate knowledge and provide an excellent starting point for those wishing to progress within our industry or enter it from other fields of engineering.”

More information about the online 90-minute multiple choice exam can be found here. A reading list and details of study resources are available here.  The entry fee is £110 which is payable at the time of booking.  To book candidates must first register their details on the IRSE website – click here to do so.
