Railway signalling specialist Digisig Rail has successfully supported a project to increase stabling capacity at Crystal Palace station.
YG Rail contracted Digisig Rail to provide the signalling design deliverables required for alterations to platform 3.
The Digisig Rail team delivered the project from early development through to detailed design, commissioning support, and close out.
Crystal Palace station opened in 1854 to serve the site of 1851’s Great Exhibition. As part of refurbishment work in 2014, the terminus for London Overground East London line services was formed, two new platforms (6 and 7) were constructed, and old northern platforms were abandoned.
Trains were already being stabled on platforms 3 and 5 on a nightly basis, with room for one five-car train in each platform. Digisig Rail was contracted to support a project that would provide standage for two five-car trains in platform 3.
The project involved the relocation of the Crystal Palace platform 3 buffer stop and associated cabling, so that two 5-car trains could safely be stabled in platform 3.
YG Rail appointed Digisig Rail due to its agility, expertise, and track record of supporting a range of projects – from small scheme developments to major resignalling work.
Digisig Rail’s team produced all the necessary signalling design deliverables, including signalling design specification, signalling scheme plan, track plan, correlation specification, and design for lineside location CP204.
The alterations undertaken included the disconnection and recovery of affected cables, the reconnection of replacement cabling to existing links, the production of a permissive working risk assessment, and the design of control tables.
To ensure quality assurance during delivery, DigiSig Rail also provided full signalling CRE support throughout the project life cycle, leading risk assessment workshops & attending regular project meetings.
