Digital connected worker technologies

Working smarter, not harder and ensuring that they get it right first time is something all organisations strive for, and WorkfloPlus by Intoware is helping the rail industry achieve this aim.

WorkfloPlus transforms paper-based processes into digital workflows with technical sheets, videos, pictures, text documents or web links included to improve the safety and accuracy of work.

“Our solution provides real-time access to supporting linked resources, including videos, technical documentation, stock management systems, training materials and remote expert assistance, at the point of need, on mobile and wearable devices,” explained Keith Tilley, Intoware’s CEO.

The platform is already transforming Network Rail after a trial was run at Aston depot to help the organisation assess and decide how digital connected worker technologies could enhance, and bring clear value, to the organisation.

The trial has seen fantastic results, including 100 per cent savings on site walkout data input (four-five hours) and time savings on forms data input (one-two hours per form), 40 percent time saving on data collection, 40 per cent increase in data accuracy/ completeness, instant digital document access, and up to 50 pieces of paper saved per site walkout.

It was found that for every £1 spent £14 was saved as a result of digitising the TEF (Track Engineering Forms). Plus Track Locator meant it was possible to track and record the geolocation from the device, while Sharepoint integration provided real-time access to reports.

The project was put forward as a nomination from Network Rail’s R&D team and the Central Rail Systems Alliance for the Digitalisation category of the Rail Tech Innovation Awards, which it won.
