Dura Composites to enter its upcoming 25th anniversary with a raft of new product launches

Dura Composites has revealed details of the first of a raft of new product launches ahead of its upcoming 25th anniversary next year.

The first to be revealed is the launch of a redesigned floor grating product range boosting safety and productivity for the rail sector.

The reinvention of the Glass Reinforced Polymer (GRP) grating, known as d2 Dura Grating offers the best performance-to-weight ratio ever achieved in its class – creating an ultra-safe walking surface that’s easy to install.

It has been extensively tested and adheres to the highest of fire safety standards.

Tom Bowman, Commercial Director and inventor of d2 at Dura Composites, said: “d2 Dura Grating is more cost-effective than traditional GRP grating in almost every scenario thanks to its unique design and composition.

“It also offers a raft of enhanced safety features as well as savings of up to 14% less per m2 compared with previous generation GRP grating.

“With the UK Government’s pledge to boost funding and accelerate infrastructure projects in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, this new product could not come at a better time.”

Leading the way with fire rating

d2 Dura Grating achieves an industry-leading Class B fire rating in accordance with the BS EN 13501-1 standard, making it suitable for a range of project installations where fire safety is an important consideration.

In achieving an independently certified Euroclass rating of Bfl-s1, d2 Dura Grating offers the market the choice of enhanced fire safety built right into the composition of the product.

Taking resistance testing to another level

Dura Composites’ unique high-specification composition has been rigorously tested (in accordance with BS 7976-2:2002+A1:2013) and achieves ultra-low slip potential in both wet and dry conditions.

However, Dura Composites has gone above and beyond the standard testing procedure used by others and has invested further to ensure that test conditions for d2 Dura Grating simulated the effects of more than 3 months’ worth of pendulum testing, – accurately assessing long-term performance and durability. That amounts to testing the equivalent of over 1.1 million real footfalls.

Tom Bowman added: “At the end of the tests, the slip-resistance of the surface was proven to reduce by a mere 5%, – achieving a post-test PTV of 72 in the dry and 62 in the wet – making it the only serious contender for heavy-duty flooring in today’s demanding marketplace.

“Although d2 Dura Grating can be applied in all industries where GRP grating is used today, it is particularly well suited to the rail sector thanks to its lighter weight which makes it easier to manually handle on site to increase install speed.

“The unique grating design allows for improved visual inspection of the substructure or assets located below, meaning less lifting of the panels is required. This ultimately saves time and labour for the end user, helping to identify potential substructure issues faster and improving overall safety.

“Core applications already benefitting from d2 Dura Grating include maintenance and traincare depots, trackside walkways and embankment staircases.”
