Exciting opportunities at Women in Rail

Women in Rail is on the search for a chair and finance director as the organisation created to improve diversity enters an exciting new era.

Both positions are key in driving the 7,500 member charity forward in providing networking opportunities and support for all women within the sector and those looking to take it up as a career.

Shona Clive, vice chair of Women in Rail, said: “These are two exciting opportunities which will play a major role in providing a platform in making the UK railways a diverse and exciting sector to work.”

The deadline for applications for both roles is April 21st.

About the roles

The Chair: is the main spokesperson for the organisation, chairing meetings of the Board of Trustees and working closely with the Vice-Chair and the Board of Trustees to drive forward the overall strategic direction of the charity as well as building and maintaining close relationships with external stakeholders. The Chair is also responsible for ensuring that the leadership team fulfil their duties and work within the governance framework, making decisions in the best interests of the charity and its members. It is envisaged that the position of Chair will be for a two year term and will be appointed by the Board of Trustees following an interview process.

Skills:

· Experience of operating at a strategic leadership level with or as part of a leadership team within an organisation (does not have to be C-suite)

· Successful track record

· Seasoned chair comfortable speaking at events and managing stakeholders.

· Understanding of Charity governance and financial knowledge advantageous.

The Finance Director: is a key member of the Board of Trustees and is accountable for the compilation and maintenance of the charity’s financial records, including monthly financial statements and forward looking budgets and forecasts. Working closely with the Chair and Vice Chair, the Finance Director’s role is to ensure the Board of Trustees fulfils its legal duties to maintain the financial health of the charity, with systems in place to allows for financial compliance and on time reporting. It is envisaged that the position of Finance Director will be for a two year term and will be appointed by the Trustees following an interview process.

Skills:

· Experience of operating at a strategic leadership level with or as part of a leadership team within an organisation (does not have to be C-suite)

· Successful track record

· Understanding of Charity governance and financial knowledge advantageous but not mandatory.

Both roles will need someone who has:

· A passion for the vision, mission, and values of the Charity

· Respected in the industry with personal gravitas

· Engaging, approachable relationship builder with a strong network that can be used for the benefit of the charity

· Actively listens and fosters and promotes a collaborative team environment

· Ambassador with tact and diplomacy

· Time to conduct the role well, including travel and attending events out of office hours.
