Customers using the Taplow Transport for London (TfL) station now benefit from an enlarged ticket hall, double the size of the previous one, and a new accessible ticket window alongside other station improvements. The historic station, built in 1872, now also has enhanced customer information screens with live travel and new automatic ticket barriers.
The latest round of improvements at the station are part of a wider package of station upgrades across the TfL Rail network in preparation for the Elizabeth line. Elizabeth line services from Taplow will run up to four times per hour, providing direct routes through central London.
Other notable improvements include the refurbishment of all customer toilets including the accessible facilities and the repair and redecoration of the station internally and externally. These improvements build on work completed at the station in 2019 when a new footbridge with three lifts providing step-free access across the station was installed.
Matthew Frost, Group Station Manager (West) for MTR Elizabeth line, said: “Team collaboration throughout the pandemic has been central to the latest round of station improvements at Taplow. I am proud that the upgrades build on the work to date to make this historic station more accessible and inclusive ahead of its next chapter with the Elizabeth line.”
When the Elizabeth line opens in the first half of 2022, it will operate as three separate railways. Customers from Taplow will still initially have to change at Paddington for services into central London.
In autumn 2022 services from Reading and Heathrow are expected to operate directly through central London out to Abbey Wood. The final milestone will be no later than May 2023 when the final timetable will be in place.
