Greater Anglia announces first-ever ‘Heritage Train’ event for Essex

Greater Anglia has said a train running from Shenfield to Rayleigh will be the first ‘Heritage Train’ to run in Essex.

The event will take place on 24 April and has been organised by the Essex & South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership and Rayleigh Town Museum. It will use Greater Anglia’s 10:17 train from Shenfield to take people to Rayleigh, where they will receive a guided tour of the town’s heritage sites.

The walk, led by guides from the Rayleigh Town Museum, will take in the Dutch Cottage, 200-year old windmill, high street and castle mount and includes a visit to the town’s museum.

The event will finish by lunchtime giving the attendees the rest of the day to explore at their leisure, returning on any train for just £5 return per adult and £3 per child.

The price includes return travel from Shenfield, a walking tour, and access to the Windmill, Mount and Museum.
