Living with risk: HSE Innovation Conference

Broadcaster and health campaigner Dr Phil Hammond has been announced as the keynote speaker at a first of its kind, in-person HSE Innovation Conference, with informative and insightful presentations from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and HS2.

Business performance specialist STC INSISO is partnering with Lloyd’s Register to host the not-for-profit event, focusing on innovative tools and methodologies designed to deliver an exponential improvement in safety performance.

Attendees will have the opportunity to safely network and discuss a wide variety of topics with like-minded professionals from a range of industries and organisations, including HS2, East West Rail Company, Network Rail, Mace/Dragados and BCM Construction.

As industries emerge from the impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the conference will turn the spotlight on living with risk and how innovation and technology can be used to make the decisions that control risk effectively.

Drawing on experiences, best practice and business lessons learned, attendees will gain previously unseen insight into:

• Big data analytics

• AI in incident investigation and root cause analysis

• Visualisation

• Collaboration design tools and techniques for effective data presentation

There will be breakout sessions, expert panel Q&A sessions and real-life case studies presented by leaders in their respective fields.

“Day 1 (October 6) will be dedicated to our incident management and prevention platform COMET, the use of which is growing rapidly within the rail construction industry,” explains Mark Rushton, CEO of Aberdeen-based STC INSISO.

“The group workshop will enable existing and potential users to discuss and debate all aspects of innovation in the field of incident prevention.

“Attendees will also explore the ongoing journey of COMET, share experiences with other users and influence the direction that new and evolving tools and processes under the COMET umbrella takes.

“The main Day 2 conference (October 7) will dive into the broader innovation and technology space.

“We’re delighted to have Phil Hammond as our keynote speaker who will stimulate thinking around a number of themes which the medical and industrial world faces on the challenges of living with risk, which are also experienced in the rail industry.

“He will explore the choices, compromises, and balances required and the importance of gathering and using high quality evidence and data to make the right choices.”
