People have called on transport bosses to reintroduce train services between a west Wiltshire town and London.
An article on BBC News said rail passengers had previously been able to travel from Bradford-on-Avon to London Waterloo – but the route, which ran via Salisbury, was axed in 2021.
South Western Railway (SWR) has now launched a consultation, asking people what they would like to see changed about current services.
Campaigners were reportedly heartened by the development, with Sam Blackwell, Mayor of Bradford-on-Avon, telling Radio Wiltshire. “It is encouraging. They are taking ideas and trying to understand what changes passengers want from the timetable.”
Steve Rotheram, Mayor of Liverpool City Region, has unveiled plans to take back control of trains in the region.
A report due to go before the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority next week recommends that rail services currently operated under the Merseyrail concession be taken back into public control when the existing contract ends in 2028.
The combined authority said this move would be “another major step” towards the Mayor’s ambition of creating a transport system where trains, buses, ferries, active travel and future rapid transit services work together as one network.
Railway 200 has officially passed on its legacy to Rocket: All Aboard (RAA) at a Liverpool City Region, Downtown in Business, Parliamentary Reception held at the House of Commons, Houses of Parliament, London.
It said this symbolic handover kicked off preparations for the bicentenary celebrations of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway in 2030.
Parliamentarians, civic leaders, railway representatives, business leaders and cultural partners attended the event, recognising the success of Railway 200 and celebrating the opportunity to build on its achievements through Rocket: All Aboard – a major cultural, heritage and community programme that will connect people and places across the Liverpool–Manchester corridor.
