London North Eastern Railway (LNER) is to introduce simpler and more flexible ticketing options for customers across the LNER network as part of a major step in overhauling outdated ticketing.

The new approach will be live from Sunday 14 May 2023, when tickets are due to go on sale, for travel from Sunday 11 June 2023.

LNER introduced a pioneering trial on three routes in 2020, between London King’s Cross and Leeds, Newcastle and Edinburgh.

Two trains carrying 170 Eurovision song contest superfans were given a rapturous welcome into Liverpool Lime Street station by drag queens, drummers and dancers.

The Avanti West Coast Progress Train from London Euston and Eurovision 2023 branded London Northwestern Railway service from Birmingham New Street both arrived into Liverpool Lime Street station shortly after 2pm this afternoon (Tuesday 9 May).

TransPennine Express (TPE) has bid a fond farewell to beloved train driver, Joe Crean, following his retirement – 52 years after he started his service on the railway.

At 12:39 Joe, 69, pulled into Manchester Piccadilly for the final time – where he was greeted by a PA announcement, congratulating him on his outstanding service and thanking him for his many years of hard work. He was met by the applause and well wishes of his friends, family and fellow railway workers.

Joe said: “I have over half a century of cherished memories on the railway, and it means a lot to have shared my final journey with both my family and my railway family.”
