Darlington railway station is set for a new look after plans for a £150 million overhaul were unveiled.

An article on the ITV news website says work has already begun on the project with two new platforms, a new station building and a concourse to be built.

There are also plans for a new multi-storey car park that will have spaces for more than 600 vehicles.


Engineers building HS2 are to put two large diggers in the ground to prepare to bore a tunnel to Euston – despite doubts over whether it will be built.

An article on the BBC website says the new high-speed rail line between London and Birmingham was originally intended to run into Euston, but will at first stop at Old Oak Common.

The last section of the line to Euston is on hold, due to spiralling costs.

However, engineers will put the enormous boring machines into position under Old Oak Common station next year.


Network Rail has confirmed the appointments of two regional managing directors to lead the Southern and North West & Central regions.

Ellie Burrows has been appointed as the permanent regional managing director for Network Rail’s Southern region.

Eastern region managing director Rob McIntosh has been appointed as the new regional managing director for the North West & Central region.

Steam enthusiasts in Eryri (Snowdonia) are confident they can get a planned railway extension back on track. The Bala project was derailed in April amid concerns over its impact on river pollution.

An article on North Wales Live says a fresh fundraising drive for £100,000 has been launched by the Rheilffordd Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake Railway) Trust.

The money will be used to fund a renewed planning application at Eryri National Park Authority.
