Plans have been revealed for vital upgrades to Liverpool Street station as part of a new sustainably developed office, retail and leisure scheme with new public and green spaces.

Sellar, MTR and Network Rail are working closely with key stakeholders including Transport for London and the Hyatt, owners of the Andaz hotel adjacent to the station, to bring forward plans for the £1.5bn project.

The Bolton News reports a motion is set to go before Bolton Council to designate the historic Bolton and Leigh Railway Route as a ‘Heritage Action Zone.’

The title would make the route eligible for Historic England investment, making it more attractive for visitors and promoting economic growth in the area.

The motion will also discuss plans for the celebration of the bicentennial of Bolton’s railway heritage in 2025 which could include new displays at Bolton Museum and enhanced platform signs at Bolton and Horwich Parkway stations.
