HS2 Ltd has started the search for a contractor to design and supply a transport system, as well as a 25-year transport operation and asset maintenance contract, for the project’s Automated People Mover (APM) in the West Midlands.

An article on Insider Media Limited says the APM will move passengers and visitors between HS2’s Interchange Station, the NEC, Birmingham International rail station and Birmingham Airport.

It will carry up to 2,100 passengers per hour in each direction on a six-minute journey, run on an elevated 2.2km long viaduct.

A new vision for the area around a city centre railway station has been given council approval.

An article on the BBC website says the proposals for the area near Chester’s station include up to 600 new homes, improved walking and cycling routes to the city centre and a multi-storey car park.

The framework for the area was unveiled earlier this year followed by public consultation events.

The plans were backed at a cabinet meeting.


A carriage once one of the most prestigious coaches on Britain’s railways has been brought back to life.

An article on the BBC website says built in 1884, the Midland Railway company carriage was designed for the rich and famous, Foxfield Railway in Staffordshire said.

The coach, one of only 10 built at the time, has been out of service since the 1930s and at one stage became a home.

The carriage returns to public service at the Blythe Bridge site on Friday.


Tom Cruise has described his satisfaction at a stunt sequence from the latest Mission: Impossible movie in which a replica steam locomotive was crashed into a Derbyshire quarry.

Scenes were filmed at Darlton Quarry, Stoney Middleton, during 2021.

In a tweet, the star said: “This train sequence was tricky, but the outcome made it all worth it. I can’t wait for everyone to see it come to life.”
