Trains will call at a station serving the new Universal theme park within the resort’s “first few years”, according to a rail company.
An article on the BBC website says East West Rail (EWR), which is planning a new rail line connecting Oxford and Cambridge, said it was accelerating some of its plans in part because of the proposed visitor attraction in Bedfordshire.
More frequent and longer trains will run on the line because of expected higher demand. A new station built on the site of one of the government’s new towns could also be brought forward by five years.
An eight-week consultation into the £6bn railway is opening today. It will be the final consultation before EWR applies to government for permission to build the line in 2027.
Merseyrail has thanked customers and partners after delivering rail services for the 2026 Grand National Festival.
The operator revealed that more than 111,000 journeys had been made over the three‑day event.
This year also marked a significant milestone for the network, with Tap & Go used for the first time during the Grand National. Merseyrail said the technology had enabled racegoers to pay more quickly and conveniently as they travelled to and from Aintree station.
Alstom and their contractors OCS have developed an enhanced cleaning technique for Avanti West Coast’s Pendolino fleet, ensuring the train’s windscreens leave the Glasgow Traincare Centre spotless.
Tim Barton, Train Presentation Manager at Alstom, and Jason Stuart, Cleaning Manager at OCS have made use of mobile staging at the depot in Polmadie that – with overhead isolation – enables cleaners to get closer access to windscreens on the Class 390s.
