Network Rail is keeping people on the move this Easter (2-5 April) while carrying out £31m of upgrades to improve future passenger and freight journeys between London and Scotland.

Government is advising people to minimise travel and stay local over the Easter bank holiday due to COVID-19. But for those who do need to use it, the railway is open.

Tim Shoveller, managing director for Network Rail’s North West & Central region, says the work will make the West Coast main line more reliable for passengers and pave the way for HS2.

Worn-out wind turbine blades destined for the incinerator will instead be used to create carbon-friendly reinforced concrete on Britain’s new high speed rail network, HS2 Ltd has said.

The innovative project will swap steel rebar, traditionally used to reinforce concrete, with sections of glass fibre reinforced polymer turbine blades that have reached the end of their operational lives generating low carbon electricity.

Major traffic changes affecting drop-off and short stay parking came into force at Coventry Railway Station over the weekend.

The article appears on Coventry Live, which writes that they have been implemented as part of the next phase of an £82 million masterplan to transform the station and the area around it.

A new boulevard is under construction creating a pedestrian and cycle route between the station and the city centre.

Finally, and customers of Transport for Wales can travel in added safety after conductors and station staff were provided with body cameras.

More than 250 state-of-the-art cameras will be rolled out across 15 key locations around the network, including Cardiff, Chester and Swansea.

During a trial last year, the cameras proved pivotal as evidence against people carrying out offences on the railway, including in trespass offences.
