The government has reaffirmed its commitment to a new railway station in Bradford, with the announcement of £400,000 of funding

An article on the BBC website says it comes after the government said in October it would make £2 billion available for the construction of the station.

It is envisaged that the new facility would be linked to a fully electrified railway line to Leeds.

A new section of railway line could also be built to link Bradford with Huddersfield and Manchester.

The Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) has launched the Sustainable Rail Blueprint, a new framework to support the rail industry in Great Britain make efficient progress on environmental and social sustainability challenges.

Travelling by rail is already the most sustainable mode of long-distance transport for people and goods, being responsible for just 1.4 per cent of the UK’s overall transport carbon emissions.

However, there is a broader challenge for the rail industry, not just to deliver net zero but improve its impact on the environment, local communities, and society.

The Department for Transport identified the need for a cross industry strategy in 2020, and funded development of the Blueprint—co-created with industry stakeholders and delivered by RSSB’s sustainability experts.


A train provider said it had recovered more than £250,000 from people who did not pay for their fare this year.

An article on the BBC website says c2c, which runs services between Shoebury, in Essex, and London, said it has issued 3,198 penalty fares in 2023.

It comes amid a clampdown on those trying to avoid paying to travel on trains from south Essex.


Barnet Council has announced that London’s newest mainline station, Brent Cross West, will be opening on Sunday 10 December 2023.

The 7,000 square metre, four platform Brent Cross West station in North London will sit between Cricklewood and Hendon stations on the Midland Main Line.

Thameslink trains will connect central London to Brent Cross in as little as 12 minutes, with up to eight trains an hour at peak times. There will be direct connections to Luton Airport as well as connecting to Elizabeth Line services via Farringdon station.
