Plans to extend the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) to reach one of London’s most remote neighbourhoods will hopefully be submitted by 2026, Sadiq Khan has said.

An article on the Evening Standard website says the Mayor said City Hall and other public bodies – along with developers and landowners – had put around £1.5 million towards feasibility studies for the project, which would see the DLR reach Thamesmead.

The area, located in south-east London and just north of Abbey Wood, is currently unserved by Tube, DLR, Overground and National Rail services.

It is hoped that if the DLR extension is created, it will help to support the construction of between 20,000 and 30,000 new homes in both Thamesmead and Beckton Riverside.

Network Rail and South Western Railway (SWR) have said that the station and line between Ryde Pier Head and Ryde Esplanade stations will open no later than 10 June, in time for the start of the summer holidays and the Isle of Wight Festival.

Work is progressing well and is now entering the final stages with engineers reinstating 172 metres of track and 280 sleepers following the repairs and painting of the steelwork.

The reopening of Ryde Pier Head station will provide a timely boost in supporting tourism during the Island’s busy summer holiday season and thousands of festival goers attending this year’s Isle of Wight Festival which takes place between Thursday 15 and Sunday 18 June.

Residents have shown their backing for proposals to reopen two former north-east railway stations as local travel options were assessed in a study of the Aberdeen to Laurencekirk corridor.

An article on Aberdeen Live says Nestrans’ multimodal study examined the route for improving public transport in the area, with the public showing support for the reinstatements of the Cove Bay and Newtonhill stations.

The two stations were both closed in 1956, and in 2020 Transport Scotland issued £80,000 of funding to Nestrans in order to conduct a feasibility study into the reopening of both stations.
