A largely redundant Victorian railway line will be reopened this year as part of plans to resurrect routes closed in the infamous Beeching cuts.

The article features in several of the newspapers including The Times that writes that the government has announced today that a 14-mile line in Devon will open up to regular passenger services for the first time in 50 years by the end of 2021.

Work will start in the coming days on plans to upgrade the Dartmoor Railway to bring it up to standards needed for full passenger trains.

Taxpayers and passengers will get better value for money when the Scottish Government takes over the ScotRail franchise in 2022, the Transport Secretary has said.

An article in The Herald says that Michael Matheson said the government will try its best to keep any cost increases to a minimum and offer financial incentives for commuters to take the train when the pandemic is over.

The comments follow the announcement on Wednesday that a government-run company will take over the franchise when Abellio’s contract comes to an end next year.


Acton Main Line has become the latest Transport for London (TfL) Rail station to become step-free after lifts and a new ticket hall opened to customers.

In preparation for the Elizabeth line, Network Rail has transformed the west London station by building a spacious new ticket hall from steel and glass including gatelines, and a covered, accessible footbridge with lifts serving both platforms.

Finally, and Northern has completed the initial refurbishment of its train fleet as part of the overall transformation programme being undertaken by the train operator.

More than 260 trains have now been through the first phase of refurbishment which has seen each carriage fully repainted and fitted out with new seating, carpet and lighting.
