Officers are investigating after two passenger trains collided in Salisbury leaving several people injured.
An article in the i paper says the incident happened when a carriage was derailed after hitting an object on Sunday evening, with a second train then crashing into it when signalling was damaged.
As a result, some passengers onboard the South Western Railway and Great Western services were thrown from their seats.
British Transport Police said a “number of people” had been injured while a casualty centre was opened at St Marks Church near to Fisherton Tunnel, where the crash occurred.
Several people, including the driver of the train that crashed into the carriage, were taken to hospital to have their injuries assessed.
In other news and new research has revealed that train passengers are slowly getting back on board with a 26 per cent increase in journeys since the end of the summer holidays, comparing journeys of the week of August 22nd, and the week of 10th of October.
Analysis of the journey data from those weeks by the Rail Delivery Group shows that journeys have risen to 22 million a week across the country.
However, the rail industry warns the slow growth in commuter journeys could put city centre businesses at risk.
