East West Railway Company (EWR Co) has revealed revised parking proposals for Bedford station after locals raised serious concerns about traffic and building heights.
An article on The Bedford Independent says the new design scales back previous East West Rail (EWR) project plans, introducing a split-site parking approach and the potential for a new community hub and GP surgery.
Initial plans in 2024 proposed an eight-storey multi-storey car park on Ashburnham Road.
Following backlash, the 2026 consultation suggested a 1,200-space facility on Ford End Road, which Bedfordians feared would cause severe traffic bottlenecks through Queen’s Park.
After working with Bedford Borough Council and local communities, EWR Co have settled on a preferred solution capping the provision at 900 spaces overall.
East Midlands Railway (EMR) has announced it is increasing services after they were reduced due to issues with a new fleet of trains.
An article on the BBC website says the operator reduced its Intercity timetable, which runs to and from London St Pancras, to 87 per cent in July after experiencing problems with its new Aurora (Class 810) trains, built by Hitachi Rail.
Following “improved operational stability”, EMR increased its Intercity operation from 87 per cent to 92 per cent on 1 September, and said it now has “greater confidence” in increasing it to 96 per cent from 19 October.
Work has begun on a new railway station in Golborne which will reconnect the town to the rail network for the first time in more than 60 years.
An article on The Warrington Guardian says construction of the new station has now started close to the site of Golborne’s former railway station, on the West Coast Main Line.
The station is expected to open in spring 2028, with an hourly service planned between Wigan and Stalybridge via Manchester Victoria.
