We start with the news that Old Oak Common HS2 station has been granted planning approval and is set to be the largest newly built railway station in the UK.

The station will have 14 platforms, a mix of six high speed and 8 conventional service platforms, with a 850m long station box, with a volume to fit 6,300 Routemaster buses.

Work is set to being on site next month.


One in three people who requested a season-ticket refund because of the coronavirus pandemic is still waiting for a payout.

That’s according to an article in The Times, which features a survey of 700 people by the Transport Focus watchdog.

It says some have been waiting for six weeks.


GB Railfreight has announced this morning that Alex Kirk has been appointed as General Infrastructure Manager.

Finally, and taking the train to work rather than driving cuts the risk of an early death by 10 per cent, research reveals.

The article in the Daily Mail says a 25-year study of more than 300,000 commuters found giving up the car also cuts the risk of heart disease and cancer.

Researchers from Cambridge University and Imperial College London, who have had their findings published in the Lancet Planetary Health journal, said the benefit to rail users are likely because of the walk to and from the station.
