A major overhaul of the way Britain’s railways are managed has been delayed, the Transport Secretary has announced.

An article from the BBC said the plan – including the creation of a new public body, Great British Railways (GBR) – will not be brought before Parliament until May at the earliest.

Transport Secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan said this means GBR is now unlikely to be fully in place by early 2024, as had been hoped.

The government has published controversial plans to make sure transport workers provide a minimum service level when they strike, The Guardian reports.

As the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union warned of a new wave of rail strikes all winter, Prime Minister Liz Truss brought forward a new bill to ensure that transport services keep running during strike action.

Under the controversial plans, a minimum service level must be in place during transport strikes, otherwise the unions will lose legal protections from damages.

Alstom has won a major UK train services contract with Govia Thameslink Railway.

The £256 million contract will see Alstom provide the Technical Support and Spares Supply Agreement (TSSSA) from October 2022, for a further five years, and five months.

The service will support fleets in operation on SouthernGatwick Express and Great Northern services into London’s Victoria and King’s Cross stations, covering a total fleet of 1,210 cars.

Maria, who is severely deaf, has been named as one of the UK’s top 100 most influential people living with an impairment or disability.

She plays a leading role in helping HS2 meets its corporate EDI commitments and targets and in December 2021 helped launched it’s new accessibility policy and digital accessibility hub on the International Day of People with Disabilities.
