The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) has begun collecting evidence after a TransPennine Express service derailed near the Heaton depot in Newcastle.

An article on New Civil Engineer says the train derailed at around 6.30AM yesterday morning (22 March) before colliding into what appears to be a concrete barrier.

No commuters were on board when the train derailed and it has been confirmed there were no injuries as a result of the incident.


Network Rail has announced that a Glasgow station will not reopen until June this year due to an extended period of maintenance work.

An article on the Glasgow Evening Times says Anderston station has been closed since March 13 as part of a scheduled eight weeks of work on the city’s Argyle line costing £32 million. 

While the majority of the line is set to reopen on May 8, bosses have now confirmed that trains will not stop at Anderston until June 5.


Work to transform Coventry railway station, to the tune of £82 million, has now been completed.

The project involved creating a purpose-built station building, a new entrance and incorporates art from the public.

The opening of the new station building coincides with the 60-year anniversary of the opening of the existing Grade II listed station in 1962. There will be a special celebration to mark the occasion in spring.

London Waterloo station’s Victory Arch, built to remember rail workers who lost their lives in war, has been rededicated at a special ceremony.

The ceremony was conducted by the Reverend Christopher Henley, Railway Chaplain, supported by a host of senior colleagues from the London and South Western Railway’s successors at Network Rail and South Western Railway, along with those from the Railway Heritage TrustBritish Transport Police and the armed forces.

One hundred years ago, less than four years after the end of World War One, London Waterloo station’s Victory Arch was opened to pay tribute to the railway colleagues who fought and died for their country.
