Sadiq Khan has vowed to bring suburban London railway services under TfL control, MyLondon reports.

The Mayor said that he would create a “revolutionary metro-style system”, working with an incoming Labour Government if one was elected.

He added that, if he was re-elected, he would “end the misery of failing outer London suburban rail services”.

Shadow Rail Minister Stephen Morgan has told Derbyshire Live that Great British Rail (GBR) would be a “bigger and more expanded body” if the party won the General Election.

He added that it could create over 200 jobs in Derbyshire – more than originally suggested.

His comments came after the launch of Labour’s plan for rail, which promises to “deliver a publicly owned railway that delivers for passengers, taxpayers and rail manufacturers.”

While the plan has been well received by trade unions, Transport Secretary Mark Harper expressed concerns, asking how it would be funded.

HS2 Ltd has released new images showing the first stretch of a viaduct that will carry the high speed line into Birmingham.

BirminghamLive reported that the new images show the first completed sections of Curzon Viaduct No.3, which will lead to the Curzon Street terminus.

One of five connected viaducts between Washwood Heath and Curzon Street, it will be approximately 300 metres long.

And finally, music mogul and TV personality Pete Waterman is hoping to set a new Guinness World Record – for the largest portable model railway.

The 208ft x 14ft (63.4m x 4.3m) scale model includes tracks built by Pete and his Railnuts team, BBC News reports.

It will be displayed at Model World Live, a new exhibition at Birmingham’s NEC.
