The Scottish government and the train operator ScotRail have set a deadline of 5pm this evening for the RMT union to accept a pay rise offer to avert strikes during the COP26 summit.

An article on politics.co.uk says speaking with BBC Radio’s Good Morning Scotland programme yesterday, Scotland’s Transport Minister Graeme Dey said “the signs are not optimistic” regarding a potential deal with the union.

RMT have argued that today’s deadline amounts to having a “gun pointed at your head”.

Spanish rail operator Renfe is reportedly seeking to operate a new service between Paris and London, initiating talks with the Spanish ministry of Finance to be granted permission, el Pais reported.

An article on City A.M. says the company is expected to take advantage of the slots in the tunnel under the Channel, capitalising on the high passenger demand for the route.

“Renfe wants to operate on the Paris-London high-speed line through the Eurotunnel, and has already started initial contacts to compete with Eurostar,” Renfe told AFP.

The Chief Executive Officer of Crossrail says it has been another important month for the project as it remains on track to open the railway in the first half of 2022.

In an update to the London Assembly Transport Committee Mark Wild says Trial Running of trains through the central tunnels has been in operation for several months with 12 trains per hour in regular operation.

The next phase of the programme will be Trial Operations, which involves the testing of more than 150 real-time scenarios to ensure the readiness of the railway, which could commence in late November.

Transport for London (TfL), in partnership with the Rail Delivery Group (RDG), British Transport Police (BTP), Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) and women’s safety groups, has today launched a new campaign to tackle sexual harassment on the transport network.

The campaign highlights various forms of unwanted sexual behaviour that can take place on public transport and aims to send a strong message to offenders that sexual harassment is not tolerated on TfL’s services.
