Disabled passengers will have better access to public transport and a bigger say in how they travel, under a new strategy which will boost inclusivity across the entire network.

The Department for Transport is today unveiling a range of initiatives to remove barriers and improve confidence for disabled people as they return to trains, buses and taxis after the pandemic.

An audit of all UK train stations, originally pledged in the Williams-Shapps Plan for Rail, is now underway – helping to identify improvements and highlighting existing areas of excellence.

A planning application for the construction of a world class rail testing facility in Wales has been conditionally approved by Neath Port Talbot Council’s Planning Committee.

An article on Wales 24 7 says Powys County Council will consider the planning application, submitted by the Welsh Ministers, later this week.

The Global Centre for Rail Excellence will provide a unique capability in the UK and Europe to support innovation in the UK and international rail industry, including the testing of cutting-edge, green technologies.


A four-day Tube strike will go ahead next month amid a row over plans to abolish separate pay grades for drivers who work nights, the RMT said.

The article in the Evening Standard says the union said there had been “a solid vote for action” from its members and subsequent talks “failed to resolve” the issue.

It said it had told London Underground staff not to report for work from 12 midday on August 3 until 11.59am the following day and on three other days in the same month.

Nick Dent from London Underground says the strike action is disappointing and they remain open to discussions to avoid the industrial action.


Alstom has celebrated 20 years of the highly successful ‘Voyager’ and ‘SuperVoyager’ Inter-City fleets.

Alstom, together with rolling stock owner Beacon Rail, and train operators, Avanti West Coast and CrossCountry marked two decades of reliable, high speed operation at a special event at the train’s home depot, Alstom’s Central Rivers facility in Staffordshire.

The Class 220 and Class 221’s were manufactured by Bombardier, acquired by Alstom in January 2021, and entered service from 2001.
