Tube and bus services in London may have to be cut unless the network receives a new bailout totalling almost £5 billion, Sadiq Khan said.

That is according to an article in The Times, that says the mayor of London said that without more government funding a reduced service this winter would make it ‘increasingly difficult’ to maintain social distancing during the morning peak.

Transport for London’s £1.6 billion bailout, granted after passenger numbers collapsed, runs out on October 17.


The Rail Minister Chris Heaton-Harris has officially opened the first section of the new Dawlish sea wall which will help protect the vital stretch of railway connecting Devon and Cornwall with the rest of the country from rising sea levels and extreme weather conditions.

The structure forms part of an £80 million project in Dawlish to protect the vital rail artery for the next 100 years.

The new sea wall is 2.5 metres higher than the previous one and includes a new curved top to deflect the waves back towards the sea.

The redevelopment of Perry Barr railway station has taken a major step forward after plans for a new transport interchange were submitted to Birmingham City Council.

Transport for West Midlands have revealed details for the building that will include multiple entrances, a ticket office and step free access.

It is part of the wider £500 million regeneration of the Perry Barr area.


Great Northern, Southeastern, Southern and Thameslink are working together with the British Transport Police as part of a new pilot in London to further encourage people to wear face coverings.

The pilot, supporting the industry’s Safer Travel Pledge, will involve a member of railway staff and BTP officer patrolling stations and trains together to remind people about government rules about wearing coverings.

According to the Rail Delivery Group, face compliance on the railway is currently around 90 per cent.
