New digital signalling on the Northern City Line, between Moorgate and Finsbury Park, will be put to the test in April and May as part of the East Coast Digital Programme.

Passengers travelling on the Northern City Line in April and May are being urged to plan ahead as work to test and commission newly installed signalling equipment takes place.

This work will take place on 9/10 April and the Early May Bank Holiday weekend (30 April to 2 May inclusive). The first weekend will see the new equipment rigorously tested ahead of it being commissioned over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The Light Rail Safety and Standards Board (LRSSB) is adding value to the light rail and tramway sector and supporting continued improvements in managing safety, the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) has announced in a review published this week.

The rail regulator has made six recommendations after assessing whether LRSSB is on track with delivering the recommendations set out by the Rail Accident Investigation Branch following the fatal Sandilands derailment in November 2016.

ORR’s review of LRSSB found the safety and standards board is providing guidance and tools to improve the sector’s understanding of risk.

South Western Railway (SWR) colleagues from across the business have taken part in the company’s first ever Track’a’Thon event.

The two days were part of SWR’s innovation strategy, bringing together colleagues who formed teams to work on finding new ways of tackling existing problems.

The winning idea is a new resource called iQR, which would give SWR customers ownership of their journey and experience. Second place went to a Fast Track Ticketing proposal which would allow for the multiskilling of colleagues to enable them to sell tickets at gatelines.

A Mid Wales railway claimed a major accolade at the Heritage Railway Association (HRA) Annual Awards in Birmingham earlier this month.

An article on Wales 24 7 says to mark 70 years of preservation, Talyllyn Railway was presented with the Manisty Award for Excellence.

The most prestigious award given by the HRA, the accolade was presented to honour the enormous contribution that the Tywyn-based narrow gauge line has made to the whole heritage railway sector and the inspiration it has provided to others for seven decades.
