Investigations are continuing into the cause of a crash between two trains which resulted in one of the drivers being seriously injured.

An article on the BBC says the trains collided on the approach to a tunnel near Salisbury Station at about 6.45pm on Sunday.

One of the train drivers is believed to have suffered “life-changing” injuries.

The trains were travelling in the same direction on different tracks but collided at a Y-shaped junction approaching the tunnel, with one hitting the side of the other, causing it to derail, British Transport Police said.

BTP, the Rail Accident Investigation Branch and the Office of Rail and Road are all investigating what caused the collision.

The new and improved Island Line swung into action this week, with the very first passenger train departing Ryde St John’s Road early yesterday.

To the delight of a gathering of people both at the station and onboard, the new Class 484 train set off at 5.35am – taking customers up to Ryde Pierhead before heading 8.5 miles south to Shanklin.

The first train follows a £26 million transformation of the railway’s trains, stations and infrastructure as part of South Western Railway’s Journey to Better.

The Northumberland Line rail project is expected to take a major step forward this week.

An article on the ITV website says two new stations, at Bedlington and Seaton Delaval, are both on track to be given the green light by Northumberland County Council this week.

If approved, both would be next to former stops on the old Ashington, Blyth and Tyne Line which shut to passenger travel in 1964.
